Family law has evolved: it is no longer about fighting for rights or battling for custody. The expense and antagonism of final hearings is regarded as a last resort when all attempts to negotiate have failed.

A New Approach

 

The new generation of family lawyers are committed members of Resolution (the family law association), which promotes cooperation and conciliation and is changing the way people think about family law. We take a holistic approach to relationship breakdown, aiming to achieve the best outcome for you and your family, whilst recognising that you may need more than straightforward legal advice.

We work with leading specialists in areas where you may need additional assistance when considering a financial settlement, such as tax experts, corporate, private client and property lawyers, Independent Financial Advisers, accountants and surveyors. We also work with, and can refer clients to, counsellors, mediators, [divorce] and life coaches where appropriate.

We seek always to act in the best interests of our clients, and work with them and with their advisers, sometimes within a court framework, but always negotiating to try and find the best solution for our client.

Brigid came to family law from an interest in counselling and social work. She was one of the first family lawyers in the country to train as a collaborative lawyer and has always believed that a fair and satisfactory result can be achieved through negotiation and dialogue even if it is within the framework of court proceedings.

Vivien established her career in London, specialising in complex international cases, including cross-border child abduction, and has been commended for her open and frank approach, which has won her many referrals and a sheaf of thank you letters from satisfied clients.

Both Brigid and Vivien were partners at Boodle Hatfield and have years of experience advising a broad range of clients. They are now able to offer their experience, skills and contacts to clients in London and the South East and Midlands, at competitive rates.

Brigid and Vivien have been widely quoted in the national and legal press and have both written numerous articles for family law and other publications.
